Come Clean Lake Livingston 2013
May 4, 2013
For sponsorship and event information contact Sydney Murphy. (936) 327-4929
What is it & When will it happen?
Come Clean Lake Livingston is an area wide event that is on two goals:
• Cleaning up Lake Livingston and its surrounding lake front areas
• Bringing an awareness to the communities surrounding the lake of the importance of keeping
Lake Livingston clean
The main event is a lake-wide clean up on the morning of May 4, 2013. Teams of volunteers led by community and organization leaders will clean up designated areas around Lake Livingston, while another team of expert volunteers will be on the lake itself cleaning problem areas by boat and barge. After the morning clean-up session all volunteers will gather at Lake Livingston State Park at 1:00 p.m. to be thanked with lunch, a Come Clean Lake Livingston t-shirt, and other program.
Another critical element of this effort is a month-long campaign to educate and create awareness around the health and beauty of our greatest local natural resource: Lake Livingston. This ongoing awareness campaign will last through the month of March.
How can I participate?
Come Clean Lake Livingston involves the counties surrounding the lake including Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity. All community members, school districts, churches, youth organizations, businesses, and other organizations are invited to participate.
Volunteer:
Volunteers are needed for many activities including leading clean-up teams, registration, lunch preparation, etc. To volunteer, call the Livingston Polk County Chamber at 936-327-4929.
Donate:
All Lake Livingston area local businesses are invited to sponsor the Come Clean Lake Livingston event. Please contact Sydney Murphy at 936-327-4929 for more information on levels of sponsorship available.
Communicate:
Help us spread the word about this event. This is the first year for the Come Clean Lake
Livingston campaign and we need everyone’s help raising awareness, so talk it up!
How can we involve our local students?
We want to encourage all local schools to get their students connected to the Come Clean Lake Livingston campaign. There are two main ways that schools can get involved: participate and educate!
Student Volunteers:
Schools and other youth organizations are encouraged to form teams of student volunteers (Junior High and High School age) who will participate on Saturday, May 4, 2013 in the Come Clean Lake Livingston clean-up effort. Each team of up to 10 students must have at least one adult sponsor. The team will be assigned to an area that is geographically close to their school and while participating in the actual clean-up, they will be led by local volunteer coordinators who live and/or work in that area. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, and trash collected by the student teams will be carried to a local drop-off spot. Team sponsors should contact the Chamber or register online via Facebook “Come Clean Lake Livingston” or “Livingston PolkCounty Chamber” or http://www.polkchamber.com.
