Special Events

Annual Awards Banquet - Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Livingston Jr. High School. Serving started at 5:30 pm and the actual banquet began around 6:00 pm. Reconginze outstanding citizens --- Polk Countian of the Year and 5 Community Awards.

Come Clean Lake Livingston - 2011 was the "first annual" community wide lake clean-up event, including Polk, Trinity and San Jacinto counties. 2012 event was held on Saturday, March 31st. 2013 event will be held on Saturday, May 4th.

Diva Night - Annual women's event which benefits county-wide organizations that benefit "women and children in crisis" --- includes SAAFE House, Childrenz Haven and CASA in the Pines. 2013 event is scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd at the Polk County Commerce/College Center.

Chamber's Jewel - Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas, sailed October 7, 2012 from Boston to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Saint John, New Brunswick, Bar Harbor, Maine and Portland, Maine. Seven (7) days at sea up the east coast for fall foliage and wonderful company. Many thanks to all that went on the cruise and supported the Chamber. Also, thanks to Pam Moore at Moore Travel for making all the arrangements.

Business After Hours

In 2013 BAH will be held quarterly at 5;30 pm and will be a co-op setting, which allows for 4-5 businesses to participate jointly in sponsoring the event: Tuesday -- February 26th at Pedigo Furniture; Tuesday -- May 221st at the old Livingston HS; Tuesday -- August 20th at Livingston Physical Therapy; and Tuesday -- November 19th at the Corrigan Community Center.

Quarterly Membership Luncheons with programs to update and inform the membership about products, services and activities in our community. This year the luncheons are scheduled for March 19th, June 18th and September 17th; with programs: Tourism in Polk County, Made in Polk County, and Education in Polk County.
Learning Lunch - We offer a variety of subjects; such as QuickBook training & Microsoft, geared towards helping our local businesses succeed --- non-Chamber members are welcome to attend also.

Eco-Tourism - Encouraging businesses and promoting the area for bird watching, boating, canoeing, etc. Developed the following:
Birding brochure for Polk County
Birding maps for State of Texas - working to get lake Livingston included on Texas Parks and Wildlife birding maps.
Piney Wood Lakes Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist (including Polk, Tyler, and San Jacinto Co.)
Lake Livingston State Park - partner in joint effort to develop the State Park to its full potential. This will help increase sales tax revenue to the area.

Prize Patrol - Balloons and candy delivered to Chamber Members to just to say "Thanks!" The first Chamber member is drawn randomly and then 3 other businesses in the immediate vicinity are selected for recognition --- photo goes in the newsletter and a business card size ad goes in the newsletter when they return their survey card.
Women Interested in Networking Opportunities - This is a new program for 2012 which provides an avenue for wormen to network and create a mentoring program for young women in the workforce. Continuing in 2013 with Meeting every other month---starting noon on January 10th.
